The Importance Of Stereotypes On Society - 911 Words
Harper Lee, an American novelist, once wrote, ââ¬Å"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of viewâ⬠(User). We as humans are very quick to judge; hence, in our eyes others are portrayed by outward appearances and not on their background or what they are going through. Stereotypes do nothing but hurt the world, whereas it would be a much better place if we were all united as one and stereotypes didnt exist. Stereotypes can be defined as viewing an entire group of people in a generalized way, and they impact our society in many ways (Stereotype). For example, in an interview with Guy Raz from NPR, Jamila Lyiscott says, ââ¬Å"You have this lens where youre looking at yourself through the lens of other peopleâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In addition, in the story, ââ¬Å"Desireeââ¬â¢s Baby,â⬠stereotypes are explained and shown how they affect society. Readers notice that making judgements about a particular person or group of p eople that you may not know knowledge about, can never be good or end well. Sometimes we as people are quick to judge based on outward appearance, and we care what others opinion of ourselves is. In reality your opinion of you is the only one that matters. Without a doubt, developing stereotypes is not a good habit to have. To reveal that going down the path of developing labels isnt good, the author writes, ââ¬Å"She walked across a deserted field, where the stubble bruised her tender feet, so delicately shod, and tore her thin gown to shredsâ⬠(Chopin). This helps support the definition of stereotypes by revealing that Desiree began to view herself through the false stereotype others had defined her as. Labels and stereotypes affect society in a negative way, they decrease self-confidence, and once you know that stereotype you sometimes view yourself that way and look at yourself as less than. Stereotypes and discrimination affect everyone, even athletes. Jackie Robin son, born in the south in the 1900s, broke barriers, set records, and ultimately left an impact on many athletes to come. Essay on Illegal Immigrants Threaten the American Economy
The subject of illegal migration into the United States is a very controversial and challenging issue; but overall Americaââ¬â¢s systematic approach for regulating illegal immigrants entering our country has failed. It pertains to millions of individuals and families journeying to the bulls-eye country of America without proper documentation; but it also consists of people entering the country legally, but they violate the terms of their approved visas and passports by permanently residing here, rather than the allotted time frame theyââ¬â¢re given. For example, New Mexicoââ¬â¢s governor claims the law is a ââ¬Å"step backwards,â⬠and how ââ¬Å"Te xas isnââ¬â¢t touching it. And California? Never again.â⬠Heââ¬â¢s referring too a similar law that occurred within California during the 1980ââ¬â¢s, that would make being an illegal alien inside the United States a felon, but it never passed. But the problems it caused are similar to what is emerging inside Arizona. These measures have led to a sharp increase in the number of kidnappings, home invasions, and many other acts of violence that are tied to Mexican drug cartels and human smuggling. When it comes down to it, the police will have full authority to racial profile anyone they believe could possibly be illegal. This is problematic because protesters argue that the mis productive questioning and interrogating of those citizens who are actually innocent, will be stripped of their civil rights. Also opponents of the law point out that itââ¬â¢s an open invitation for harassment and discrimination against Hispanics regardless of their citizenship status. Social Effects of Alzheimerââ¬â¢s Free Essays
ââ¬Å"What Are the Social Effects of Alzheimerââ¬â¢s Disease? â⬠The growing epidemic of Alzheimerââ¬â¢s Disease plagues more than 4 million people nationwide, according to the National Institute for Aging. The social and financial costs associated with Alzheimerââ¬â¢s Disease are on the rise with no relief in sight. Alzheimerââ¬â¢s Disease (AD), is the most common form of Dementia. We will write a custom essay sample on Social Effects of Alzheimerââ¬â¢s or any similar topic only for you Order Now It is an irreversible disease that destroys the brain over a period of time. AD is equivalent to child development in reverse. Scientists have found that AD patients share the abnormal processing and degradation of the beta-amyloid precursor protein. Scientists have noted that there are 2 changes in the brain cells. That is plaque and tangles. Plaques are made up of a sticky protein called beta amyloid, which builds up into small, sticky clumps in the cortex of the brain, intermingled with the functioning nerve cells. Tangles are made up of tau molecules, which normally form tiny tubes that support the structure of the brain cell. In Alzheimerââ¬â¢s patients, the molecules change shape so that the tubes collapse, causing the cell to shrink and die. It is still unknown how these changes occur. Alois Alzheimer first identified this disease in 1907. Generally, a person can develop this disease anywhere from 2 to 20 years after the first warning signs appear. Both men and women can become effected by AD. The older person is more likely to have it than the younger person. Rare inherited forms of AD such as Familal AD, can develop in individuals as early as their 30ââ¬â¢s and 40ââ¬â¢s. Most people develop it between the ages of 65 and 75 years old. AD has no single cause, but in the last 15 years, scientists have found several risk factors that increase oneââ¬â¢s likelihood in developing the disease. One of the main risk factors is increasing age. According to the Multi-Institutional Research in Alzheimerââ¬â¢s Genetic Epidemiology (MIRAGE) project based at Boston University School of Medicine shows that at all ages a womenââ¬â¢s risk of the disease is somewhat higher than menââ¬â¢s. Scientists also believe genetic predisposition plays a role to some degree. Based upon the MIRAGE projectââ¬â¢s findings, it was found that people whoââ¬â¢s both parents had AD had 1. 5 times the risk of people with just one affected parent and 5 times the risk of people with 2 unaffected parents. It was also found that most people with one affected parent do not develop AD themselves. Scientists have also found that genetic mutations on chromosomes 1, 14, 12 and 21greatly increase the risk of this disease in some families. Specifically chromosome 21 cause AD in people with down syndrome. A gene on chromosomes 12 and 19 play a significant role in late on-set AD, the most common type of AD. Scientists believe that ethnicity and environmental à factors play a role in the development in this disease. It has also been founded that high fat/low fiber diets have been linked to increase the risk of AD, as well as strokes, heart disease, hypertension and diabetes. It is believed that regular, moderate exercise also helps to prevent AD too. In 1998, AD researchers Erasmus University in Rotterdam found that women smokers are 2 times as likely to develop AD and men who smoke have 6 times the risk. More research is needed, as there is still no clear answer to the cause of this disease. There are 7 stages of Alzheimerââ¬â¢s Disease. The first stage is when the patient is cognitively normal. This is when there are no complaints or indication of any memory problems. The second stage is when the patient is very mild and cognitive deficit. In this stage, there is forgetfulness of new names or where they put things such as glasses or keys. The third stage is when the patient has a mild cognitive decline. This is when there is trouble remembering the names of objects and material they just read. The fourth stage is when the patient has a moderate cognitive decline. This is when the patient gets lost going to familiar places and having difficulty counting and recognizing familiar people. The fifth stage is when the patient has a moderately severe cognitive decline. This is when the patient has early dementia. It is when the patient needs assistance to survive. They forget their address, phone number and where they are. The sixth stage is when the patient has a severe cognitive decline. This is when the patient has middle dementia. In this stage, they forget relatives names but not their own. They have no idea of where they are or what the date is. They seem nervous and paranoid and usually lash out. Other times they are peaceful. They also lose bladder and bowel control. Finally, in the seventh stage, the patient has a very severe cognitive decline. It is the final stage of dementia. They later cannot feed themselves, and eventually lose the ability to walk and talk. The 10 Warnings signs generally associated with AD are: memory loss, difficulty performing familiar tasks, problems with language, disorientation with regard to time and place, poor or decreased judgment, problems with abstract thinking, misplacing things, hanges in mood or behavior, changes in personality and loss of initiative. A diagnosis of Alzheimerââ¬â¢s Disease with 100% accuracy requires an examination of the brain tissue. This is typically done with an autopsy after a person dies. An autopsy of a person with Alzheimerââ¬â¢s shows their brains literally tangled and deteriorated. Although a diagnosis of probable Alzheimerââ¬â¢s is very accurate wit hout autopsy with a complete physical examination of the patient. The diagnosis of AD is through a process of elimination after all possible causes of the symptoms are ruled out. Early diagnosis of this horrible disease is very important, as it will give time to the patient to make plans for the care of themselves and their finances. There are no cures for AD. Only 5 prescription drugs to treat AD have been approved by the FDA. Unfortunately, none of these drugs stops the disease itself, but it slows down the process for a limited time and helps control some of the behavioral symptoms. There is no way of preventing AD. There is some indication that antioxidants such as Vitamin E and some anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen may reduce the risk of starting it. It is believed that approximately 2-4 million Americans have AD. More than 70% of Alzheimerââ¬â¢s sufferers live in their own home and the average out of pocket cost is $12,500 a year. For Alzheimerââ¬â¢s patients in residential care centers or nursing homes, the average cost is $42,000-$70,000 per person per year depending upon where they live. The average cost of Alzheimerââ¬â¢s care from diagnosis until death is $174,000. AD is very costly. Most assistant living facilities are self-financed. Unfortunately, most people cannot afford it. V. A. benefits maybe an option for veterans. Medicare pays for up to 150 days of nursing home care, but AD does not qualify because there is no possibility of rehabilitation. Medicaid is a federal program administered by individual states that pay for long term care. Unfortunately, there are many restrictions and depending upon the state and or the stage of AD, the sufferer is in dictates whether or not they qualify for such a benefit. That is why this is a health crisis facing our nation. The government must be willing to provide more money towards research, and until a cure is found the restrictions of Medicaid must be reorganized to aid those in need. Model of Consumer Attitude Formation â⬠Free Samples to Students
Question: Discuss about the Model of Consumer Attitude Formation. Answer: Introduction: The following report illustrates and identifies the key elements in the market that influences customers decision on purchase. In order to assist the report few people have extended their helping hand whose consumption behaviour and decision making process has been examined. It is known to all that the consumer behaviour has different modes. As per the conventional categorisation, consumer behaviour can be divided into two major parts. One is the internal influences on consumer behaviour and the other is the external influences in the consumer behaviour. Pertaining to the purchasing decision on a product or service, consumers are highly selective and they keep their decision making process alive during the understanding of the product they are offered in the market. Internal influences of the consumers constitute of the perceptions, learning, motivation, behaviour or attitude and personality of the consumers in terms of the offered products or services (Claiborne and Sirgy 2015). As it has already been said that the influences on the consumers decision making process can be categorised into two segments, such as : internal influence and external influence, the report is going to proceed with the detailed discussion of these two segments (Solomon 2014). Internal Influence: There are four key stages of perception of the consumers regarding the product or service they are offered. Followings are the details discussions of the four key stages of the perception of the consumers. These four stages are: Exposure: When a consumer senses the availability of the product in the market or it launch, exposure occurs. The advertisements play a major role in making the first stage of perception occur. This is the primary stage that provides the customers or the consumers with an initial idea of the introduction of the product. While looking at the posters or billboards or hearing about the product from radio or television commercials, customers or consumers hoard the basic information about the products or the services. For instance, a consumer wanting to purchase a new car would at first gather information from the commercial advertisements. This is called the selective exposure. In case of the chosen customers, the selective exposure the used during the perception making process during their purchase of latest Apple iphone 7. They were introduced with the brand seven years ago and they have been continuing to be witness the exposure of the brand in the recent years as well. The first deci sion made by those customers was during the first product launch of Apple iphone 6 on September 2015. The initial exposure occurred when they watched the creative advertisement in the television showing the high quality phone and its camera. The second stage of consumer perception is the attention that follows exposure. Attention occurs after the required information about the product or service exposed to the consumers. Once the product is recognised by the customer it starts drawing attention of them. Attention is generally drawn with the help of product appearance. The products are often made lucrative so as t draw attention of the customers. Attention drawing criterion of the products or services depends on the look, shape, size, colour and movement of an object. An example of product attention to the customers could be the advertisements of the cars. For instance, the latest advertisement of Samsung S8 that has created a huge effect upon the consumers mind because of the look of the projected mobile phone. Showing phone from different angle has also drawn the attention of the people towards it in the very first look. Another example can be taken into consideration while discussing the second stage of perception. The advertisement of Audi succinctly depicts the quality of the product and it clearly expresses the sound of the cars that is highly alluring to the customers. The colour of the projected car is also a matter of attraction (Carrington, Neville and Whitwell 2014). The third stage of consumer perception is interpretation. Consumer interpretation refers to the assessment of the feeling and attachment towards the exposure of a product or service- specifically the brand introduced to the customers. Consumer interpretation can be further categorised into two different parts. These are: Cognitive Interpretation of the Consumers: Cognitive interpretation of the customers refers to a space where the stimuli are placed into a prevalent category of implication. It adds new meaning to the already existing category. Affective Interpretation of the Consumers: Affective Interpretation refers to the emotional response or the primary feeling of the customers to the product or brand they are offered by a company. This is elicited by the stimuli. In case of the chosen customers, the experience with Apple iphone 7 can be considered as the cognitive interpretation as they were already using Apple iphone 6. It can be considered as the cognitive interpretation because the feeling towards the new iphone has been an added one. It was added to the already existing category. Interpretation is a large area that is highly utilised by the by the marketers in order to create a bunch of loyal customers towards the brand by adding adequate and apt information pertaining to the product or service on offer. The fourth stage of perception is the memory of the customers that is impacted by the offered brand. The long term or short term storage of the consumers pertaining to the quality or information of the product they opt for purchasing, is called the memory. The memory is stimulated with the help of the past experience of the customers pertaining to a product. The product or the service they have already use may have longer r short term effect upon the customers choice, hence they might opt for reusing the same brand in a modified version. In case of the chosen customers, they have already used Apple iphone 6. Hence, the positive impact in the usage of the phone has stimulated the in purchasing Apple iphone 7 that is the modified version of iphone. Perception is nothing but the created stimuli upon the customers by the marketers. In order to draw attention towards the brand the marketers often create bold stimuli so that the consumers automatically generate feeling towards the product on offer. For instance, the above poster projecting Samsung Galaxy S8 depicts the quality of the camera in the night vision. The poster no doubt creates a positive level of attraction that is meant to be a strong perception of the targeted customers. The quality of the camera as projected in the advertisement has the effect upon the people that is strictly related to consumers relation to their picture clicking habit. The scenery depicted in the posted is also a lucrative one that exhibits a panorama. The mild emerging light from the horizon has effective attraction upon the customers. These are the bold advertising strategies used by the marketers. In the very first introduction of the phone the consumers are made clear about information that the phone has high capacity of capturing the nature in its camera. The quality of the camera has thus already been taken into consideration in the mind of the customers. It can thus be said that perception is one of the strongest tools to attract the cus tomers towards a brand. Motivation is one of the most important driving forces in terms of decision making process of the consumers. It is defined as the psychological force that determines the direction of the behaviour of an individual, effort and persistence. It intensifies and directs consumers decision regarding the purchase of a product or service on offer. Consumer behaviour in terms of motivation has been illustrated by Maslow in his theory of hierarchy. The motive hierarchy model of Maslow depicts the entire process of motivation influencing the purchase decision of the consumers. The emotional, motivational and cognitive feeling of the consumers pertaining to a particular brand or more is called the attitude of the consumers. This is a process that is gradual as well as sudden. It is both positive as well as negative. Once a customer generates an attitude towards particular product or service, it is quite difficult to change. The negative remains negative and positive remain positive. However, it is the obligation or the responsibility of the marketers that the attitude that is negative towards their brand should be changes through motivation and quality advancement of the product. The change of belief from negative to positive is channelized through effective advertisement strategies and direct communication with the consumers through offering great service (Kahle and Chiagouris 2014). However, the chosen customers always had positive attitude towards the use of iphone. Hence, it was easier for the marketers to positively affect them in making the decision o f the purchase. They never had any problem with the brand they were previously using. Hence they opted for its modified version. As it has already been mentioned, there are three key areas of consumers attitude towards the product or service they use or they have previously used. These are: cognitive that is called the beliefs of the customers about product or service, the effective process or the feelings of the customers about the offered product or service and the behavioural process or the response tendencies. Cognitive: the cognitive attitude can both be positive or negative. The taste of pastries is always good- this is the positive cognitive attitude of the customers. Affective: Feelings can be held by the customers pertaining to the quality of the product or services they are offered. The feelings can both be dependent and interdependent. Behavioural: day to day behaviour of the customers also determines the purchase decision for a product. Demographics influences refer to the size, structure and distribution of the population of a particular area or market. Size of the population refers to the active number of people present in the market. As a matter of fact, size of the population does not have direct impact upon the decision of the consumers for the purchase. However the marketing strategy becomes easy if the marketers have an adequate number of populations in the market. The population structure refers to the income, education and occupation of the population. This has great impact upon the determination of the consumers while purchasing a product. Group Influences: Humans are undoubtedly social animals. Through the formation of group they make decisions. Hence, group influence is one of the strongest external influences helping the consumers take decisions on purchase. These groups are called the reference groups. Reference groups can be segmented into three categories, aspirational reference groups, associative references groups and dissociative reference group. Apsirational reference group refers to the one that is used by a firm as its spokesperson. Most of them are celebrity and they are highly influential to the customers. Lifestyle of the consumers has direct impact upon the purchase decision. For example, people with luxurious life style would decide to make the purchase of the luxurious products and they would not think much about the price of the brand. Apple iphone 6 is going to be apt in this regard. Conclusion: It can thus be concluded that the influences on the consumer behaviour has both positive and negative effect. The marketers are highly skilful in understanding the actual behavioural mode of the consumers thus entailing the marketing strategies in need. Conclusion Internal External Perception: Perception refers to the interpretation and organising capability of the consumers pertaining to a product Motivation: It is defined as the psychological force that determines the direction of the behaviour of an individual, effort and persistence. Group Influence: When a consumer understands the group that has direct influence upon their decision making process, it ic called the group influence Reference: Carrington, M.J., Neville, B.A. and Whitwell, G.J., 2014. Sambal Belacan Speech Essay Example
Sambal Belacan Speech Paper Good evening to everyone here. Before I begin, let me ask you one simple question. Do you know what sambal belacan is? Yes, Iââ¬â¢m sure everybody in here, at least have heard of it. It is one of the famous foods in Malaysia. Iââ¬â¢m standing here tonight not to talk about local foods but Mongolian foods. What are orom, tarag and shar tos? Sound bizarre, right? For your information, they are some of the well known and weird Mongolian foods. The cold weather in Mongolian has affected their ways to eat. They also nomad who always move from one place to another. So, they need to take foods that are high in protein, carbohydrate, and fat to fight with the cold climate and for their energy. Therefore, their staple traditional diets are milk and meat. Mongolians also eats cereals, barleys, and natural fruits. The Mongols turned the food high in protein and minerals, but relying less on seasonable vegetables and fruits. What happen if we have to eat Mongolians foods for the rest of our life? Is it healthy? Of course not. If we eat like them, it will bring a lot of diseases such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and so on. The milk from sheep, cattle, horses, camels and goats are used in preparing their foods. I would say that they have found creative and ingenious way to use the milk from all the animals. Usually, the method of drying is common in preparing the food from the milk. The dried food is stored for a long winter and spring. Their diets also have a large proportion of animal fat. The common dish is dried cooked mutton without any ingredients called buuz. The tradition of using, producing and preparing are familiar outsides main cities. Some other Mongolian foods are orom (cream that forms on top of boiled milk), aarul (dried curds), airag (fermented milk from female horses), nermel (home made vodka), tarag (sour yogurt), shar tos (melted butter from the curd) and etcetera. The Mongols also treats their visitors warmly. They will try their best to make the visitors happy. A guest that enters a yurt will always be given something to eat. It is rude to reject the offer but not necessary to finish the bowl. As a symbol of support, the foods are passed and receive with the right hand while the left hand touching the right elbow. As a conclusion, the Mongols absolutely have unique diets to fit with their artic climate. However, their diets are not particularly suitable for us and vegetarians because they contain a huge amount of fat. Thatââ¬â¢s all from me. Thank you very much for listening.

Theory X, Y, and Z Essays
Theory X, Y, and Z Essays Theory X, Y, and Z Paper Theory X, Y, and Z Paper Comparison and Contrast on Theory XY and Z Douglas McGregor suggested that there are two different ways in which we can look at workers attitudes toward work. Each of these views, which McGregor called Theory X and Theory Y, has implications for management. Theory X (authoritarian management style) -People do not really like to work and will avoid it if at all possible so they must be coerced, controlled, directed, threatened with punishment to get them to work. -The average worker avoids responsibility, is unambitious and wants security more than anything else. Management based on Theory X is paternalistic at best and, at very least, authoritarian. -Rewards and punishment are assumed in this theory to be the key to employee productivity. Theory X managers believe that workers are only motivated by one thing money. They are selfish, lazy and hate work. They need to be closely controlled and directed. Theory Y (participative management style) The theory Y is to some extent the opposi te image of X -Effort in work is as natural as rest and play. People will apply self-control and self-direction in the pursuit of organizational objectives, and the external control or the threat of punishment is not the only means of getting them to work. -Commitment to objectives is a function of rewards associated with their achievement. The most important reward: satisfaction of their own ego needs. -People usually accept and often seek responsibility. -Creativity, ingenuity, and imagination are widely distributed among the population. People are capable of using these abilities to solve an organizational problem. In modern industry the intellectual potential of the average person is only partly utilized. Theory Y managers believe that Workers are motivated by many different factors apart from money. They enjoy their work and they will happily take on responsibility and make decisions for the business. Theory z William Ouchi Theory Z makes certain assumptions about workers: People tend to want to build cooperative and intimate working rela tionships with those that they work for and with, as well as the people that work for them. They have a high need to be supported by the company, and highly value a working environment in which such things as family, cultures and traditions, and social institutions are regarded as equally important as the work itself. They have a very well developed sense of order, discipline, moral obligation to work hard, and a sense of cohesion with their fellow workers. Finally, Theory Z workers can be trusted to do their jobs to their utmost ability, so long as management can be trusted to support them and look out for their well being. One of the best aspects of theory Z is the long-term employment which would appeal to Americans because they want job security. The collective decision making will create a good work environment and increase productivity. Something that Americans wont like is the slow evaluation and promotion. Americans dont like to wait years before they can get a promotion and they would rather get a new job instead. Another great benefit is that the company will have holistic concern for you and your family. Theory Z also places more reliance on the attitude and responsibilities of the workers, whereas McGregors XY theory is mainly focused on management and motivation from the managers and organizations perspective. Comparison Contrast Douglas McGregor tends to categorize people as one type or another: either being unwilling or unmotivated to work, or being self-motivated towards work. Threats and disciplinary action are thought to be used more effectively in this situation, although monetary rewards can also be a prime motivator to make Theory X workers produce more. William Ouchi believes that people are innately self-motivated to not only do their work, but are loyal towards the company, and want to make the company succeed. Theory X leaders would be more authoritarian, while Theory Y leaders would be more participative. But in both cases it seems that the managers would still retain a great deal of control. Theory Z managers would have to have a great deal of trust that their workers could make sound decisions. Therefore, this type of leader is more likely to act as coach, and let the workers make most of the decisions. As mentioned above, McGregors managers, in both cases, would seem to keep most of the power and authority. In the case of Theory Y, the manager would take suggestions from workers, but would keep the power to implement the decision. Theory Z suggests that the managers ability to exercise power and authority comes from the workers trusting management to take care of them, and allow them to do their jobs. The workers have a great deal of input and weight in the decision making process. Conflict in the Theory Z arena would involve a great deal of discussion, collaboration, and negotiation. The workers would be the ones solving the conflicts, while the managers would play more of a third party arbitrator role. This type of manager might be more likely to exercise a great deal of Power based conflict resolution style, especially with the Theory X workers. Theory Y workers might be given the opportunity to exert Negotiating strategies to solve their own differences. Theory Z emphasizes more frequent performance appraisals, but slower promotions, while according to Theory X, appraisals occur on a regular basis. Promotions also occur on a regular basis.

International Tourism Marketing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4000 words
International Tourism Marketing - Essay Example The international businesses are important for many countries as it helps in giving a boost to their economies and these businesses create an attractive and competitive environment (Bennett and Blythe, 2002). The international businesses play an important role in the international trade and the increasing number of international businesses create globalized environment that need more effective analytical tools (Bowman, 2007). Hence, international businesses need to take various factors into account when designing strategies for international marketing. In recent times, the social networks have changed the ways the organizations are doing business activities. According to Molina et al. (2010), social media is the online community in which people from different backgrounds and objectives come together on one platform to share the interests and activities. Similarly, Mansfield et al. (2005) in their research indicated that the travel and tourism industry is growing by leaps and bounds a nd the industry is expected to produce exceptional results in the long-run. The tourism industry is the main revenue earner in countries such as UK, USA, Canada, Malaysia, UAE, Saudi Arabia and other European countries (Gretzel, 2008; Gursoy and McCleary, 2004; Srikaya and Woodside, 2005). Background of the study The tourism industry has been growing at an exceptional rate and it is expected that it will continue to expand more in the future. The most important aspect that the tourists consider when deciding about their travel destinations are the information gathering process. The tourists use variety of sources to gather sufficient information. As Gursoy and McCleary (2004) have stated that tourist information is the most valuable concept and the two vital aspects that are given utmost consideration are the image that the tourists have about the destination and the selection mechanism that the tourists to make their final destination choice. According to Chitango (2011), people ar e relying more on social media to make selection about their travel destinations and they are using these social networking mediums as a source of information gathering mechanism. It has been stated by Santos (2011) that the tourism industry will have to rely on the social media advertisements in the future so that they can attract the customers. The travellers are now shifting from traditional advertisement mediums such as advertisements, newspaper ads, billboards and others to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and other online blogs to make their travel destinations choices (El-Goharay, 2010). The primary purpose of the paper is to help the travel and tourism industry develop an understanding about the changing marketing trends in terms of social media and what needs to be done to respond to the customerââ¬â¢s needs and demands. The paper will develop the strategies that the industry can implement to attract the tourists to their countries and make it their final destination choice. P roblem Statement The researchers wanted to understand impact of social media on the

Feedback and Evaluation Paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Feedback and Evaluation Paper - Essay Example It has a diverse workforce from all around the continent with recognized worldwide reputation for its innovation and leadership (CalPERS, 2012). The feedback mechanisms are a way to improve the services provided by the Calpers the Retirement agency for the state of California employees. Mostly, the problems are difficult, secrecy, and also pension programs tend to get boring with time. So, feedback is essential for this retirement agency of California as well. First of all, the scale of the problem should be recognized. Identifying the problem is the basic step from where feedback is generated. It is the feedback of the customers, as well as employees which pave the way for feedback mechanisms. The internal and external feedback mechanisms allow the company to prosper more successfully and enhance the atmosphere of the organization (State University, 2012). Firstly, the political leaders of California should realize the profundity of current financial deficits in the economy as what will the future implications will be. The company has found out that if pension systems even earn 7.5 to 7.75 percent on a yearly basis, CALPERS will only learn 73.5 to 75.3 correspondingly. The pension systems today cannot find their way out of this current scenario which is absolutely devastating. The debt of the state of California is rapidly increasing everyday as political instability continues to pertain in the region. Obviously, the retirement agencies like CALPERS are highly affected by such traumas. This situation is rather tragic and disappointing, but it is very costly for Retirement firms as well (CalPERS, 2012). Whenever the leaders do not act on the situation, the cost increases to the citizens and state and possibly to public workers to whom the state owe pension. This condition is comparable to an adverse loan amortization, which is a scenario where the owner of the house does not pay much for the principal owed and thus goes into an even shredder condition. The dela y which takes place in this situation over the period of next year can be figured out from any underfunded sum. The 6.2 percent rate of discount leads to yearly pitfalls for the CALPERS system and thus only $16.8 is estimated to be given to CALPERS, CalSTRS and UCRP combined. This problem has to be highlighted in the company (CalPERS, 2012) The feedback and evaluation programs are very important for CaLPERS. For this purpose, direct administration of Associate Program or Program Evaluator is required who assists in the planning and conducting of field audits of employment records and payroll at the public agencies to testify that the agencies are enrolling employees in accordance with the Law set by the Public Employees Retirement Law. Also, the agencies have to report rewards as well in accordance to this law. This situation helps then go to different public agencies located all across the state of California. Furthermore, the Associate Program Evaluator or Program Evaluator may as sist in carrying out the reviews and internal audits of the company which includes the EDP operations, administrative controls, and internal accounting and several other programs (CalPERS, 2012). The fiscal analysis of this public firm extensions for funding and also various other special programs is done by the Program evaluator. The present findings are then presented to the general public and are highly expected to show official dress and manner, in addition to sticking to

Countermeasures to Automobile-Exhaust Pollution Research Paper
Countermeasures to Automobile-Exhaust Pollution - Research Paper Example Pollution from vehicles is a universally acknowledged problem. However, it varies depending on the nation and its population. For example, pollution from cars contributes to between 50 to 90 percent of the total in urban areas. This may not be the same for rural areas. However, motor vehicles still present a disadvantage to the environment and human life. It is, therefore, prudent to develop countermeasures to automobile-exhaust pollution. Most of the worldââ¬â¢s vehicles are operated on conventional hydrocarbons such as diesel and gasoline. By switching to fuel that maintains less pollution, the environmental impact of vehicles can be minimized. An alternative fuel technology that has the potential to meet this challenge is fuel cells. In this technology, hydrogen has maintained the best promise as a candidate to replace petroleum-based fuels. This technology utilizes hydrogen gas to create electricity. This electrical energy is converted to mechanical energy through an electric motor, which makes the wheels of an automobile to rotate. In this process, the emissions developed are pure water, Carbon (IV) Oxide and various oxides of nitrogen. This emissions are attributable to difficulties in storage and commercial production. Despite the release of oxides of carbon and nitrogen into the air, hydrogen fuel cells have a smaller footprint on the environment, when compared to conventional gasoline engines. However, suc h inefficiencies can be eliminated through use of concrete, as researched by a study at the University of Eindhoven (Yirka npp). The easiest method for manufacturing hydrogen gas at the moment requires mining fossil fuels, which has an environmental impact in its own right. However, new production techniques such as bacteria and biomass waste are expected to become conventional in the coming years. This will reduce the environmental impact of fuel cells, since the technology will lower oxides released into the air (Katsuhiko 3371). A hydrogen fuel cell works by the introduction of hydrogen at the cathode and oxygen at the anode. In the process, water is released out. Anions and cations from the cell are harnessed at the respective terminals, and energy is released. Hydrogen has a high energy content of around 150MJ/Kg or 61,100 BTUs per pound. This exceeds gasoline and its 20,900 BTUs of energy per pound. High energy content implies that less fuel is required to maintain the same am ount of power in engines, or to travel the same distances. Similarly, it has a higher efficiency when used in combustion engines. Advanced hybrid engines such as that of the Prius maintain an efficiency of about 40% (Potera 38). However, hydrogen has an efficiency of about 75% when used as the lone source of fuel. This efficiency means that greater distances can be covered with less consumption of energy. However, introduction of additional hydrogen fuel cell cars has been hampered by infrastructural issues. There are limited facilities that allow fuelling to conventional commuters within their localities (Katsuhiko 3369). There are many electric cars (EVs) on modern roads. Examples may be seen from Teslaââ¬â¢s roadster and the Nissan Leaf car. These vehicles release virtually no emissions to the environment, therefore are a solution to automobile-exhaust problems. This is attributable to their engines, which do not burn fossil fuels in order to release energy. Electric cars use sets of

The Relationship Between Jekyll And Hyde English Literature Essay
The Relationship Between Jekyll And Hyde English Literature Essay Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was a novella written by the Scottish writer-Robert Louis Stevenson. It made its place alongside other controversy novels of 20th century such as Dracula or Frankenstein. The story follows Mr. Utterson-a lawyer and a friend of Dr. Jekyll, through a horrifying and mysterious story. The main theme of the novella is how people having two opposite characteristics: the good and the evil, the realistic and the spiritual, the self-controlling and the frustrating. It also builds a picture of England under the shadow of Queen Victoria and its changing. A combination of Gothic horror, science-fiction, detective and adventure, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is fascinated from the very first page. Dr. Jekyll, a doctor, a member of the British upper class, whose background is excellent. He was born to a large fortune, an educated man who commands the respect of all. He grew up with an imperious desire to keep his head high before the public, thus he had to hide his irregularities with a morbid sense of a shame. Very early, Jekyll saw the need to hide his shameful part of himself. Also very early, he realized a profound duplicity of life, and mans dual nature. From his studying and experiencing, he came to a conclusion that man is not truly one, but truly two. As a scientist, Jekyll believed that it is necessity to separate the two identities, to prove his theory and to find the answers for his own questions about the polar twins that exists in every man, and how were they dissociated. Although he knew that it would risk death, his temptation of discovering was so strong that he decided to make a potion which he believed, would separate him from his polar twin, and took the poti on. The potion did not kill him but turns him into another person, his evil side of nature Edward Hyde. Hyde was described to be less robust and less educated than Jekyll, but was smaller, slighter and younger and above all, he was a pure evil. And the drug was a gate which Jekyll used to turn to Hyde, and from Hyde back to be Jekyll. Jekyll, who grew up and lived as a member of the upper class, and under the Victorian society, he had to stay away from vileness, vulgarity and villainy matters which a dignified and respectable scientist would not be associated with, and it started to bore him. But in the shape of Hyde, Jekyll could now again enjoy the activities that he pursued when he was young, while the respectable doctor remained safely from detection. That was the first slip that he made let himself being tempted. But Jekyll soon felt wonder and disgusted at what Hyde had done, for which he described to be inherently villainous, and his vicarious depravity. And one day, Jekyll woke up, not where he seemed to be, in his house in London, but in Hydes little room in Soho, in the body of Hyde. He had gone to sleep Henry Jekyll, but awoke Edward Hyde. That is when the feeling of terror and horror came to him he started to lose his control over Edward Hyde and his original and better self. But Jekyll did not want to give up Hyde because of his enjoyment to the adventures that he had done in the shape of Hyde. Jekyll was a like baby who indulged and was pampered by the activities performed by his double, even though he knew that he might turn himself entirely to be despised and friendless. He just treated Hyde as his errant son who must be punished and made the choice that he would keep his good side, but with some unconscious reservation not giving up the house in Soho nor destroying Hydes clothes. He remained to be Jekyll for two months, but after that, he was tortured with throes and longings as Hyde struggling after freedom. The extreme enjoyment that he had b een receiving as Hyde is ultimate, which led to Jekyll taking the transforming draught again. Jekylls enjoyment allowed Hyde to grow into stature and much stronger, he came out roaring after being repressed for long, and much worse, more devil. He now had to contend with his lust of evil, damned horrors of the evenings, the ugly face of my iniquity stared into his soul. However, Hyde was not denied because above all, Jekylls temptation was so strong that he still desired Hydes presence and his activities. That is why Jekyll always tried to protect his secret and did not tell or let anybody know about it. But he also could not let Hyde to peep out an instant when the murder case was overlooked or the hands of all men would be raised to take and slay him. Hyde started to take over while the good side Jekyll was weakened. That is when Jekyll was sitting in Regents Park in a fine, clear January day, he felt the symptoms of the transformation without the aid of any chemicals. Hyde appear ed because of Jekyll, who had been trying to prevent him, now desired to have him appear again. It was all about Jekylls emotional feelings that open the gate which he had been trying to close, and freed the devil. The connection between Hyde and Jekyll became so closely that we can not determine the two. The transformation had to be concealed and Hyde/Jekyll needed to get the drug in the laboratory. But it was dangerous to get the drug in Hydes shape. They made a plan, using Poole and Dr. Lanyon, to get the drug and also, to get their, or more correctly, Jekylls revenge on Lanyon. Although being a good friend with Hyde, Dr. Lanyon had always ridiculed Jekyll and his theory of the existence of evil inside man. After this point, Jekyll and Hyde developed a strange relationship. They hated each other. Jekyll hated Hyde because of his pure evil and his power over him. He also had the feeling of horror that Hyde would probably do more horrible things, and that is when he thought of a wa y that can stop Hyde committing suicide. Of course Hyde did not want to be destroyed so during the act of Jekylls dying after taking the poison, Hyde regained his power so that when Utterson and Poole broke the laboratorys door, they found the dead body not of Jekyll, but of Hyde. This was also the moment when Hydes power was the strongest, he had the extreme power over Jekyll. Clearly, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde gave the idea of mans duality nature. In Jekylls view, every soul contains two elements the good and the evil, and one is dominant. Thus, it does not mean that a good man never has an evil thought or behavior. Jekylls experiment, beside scientific matters, it was not what Jekyll expected it to be. He did not want his evil persona to gain control, but throughout the story, it proved that Jekylls temptation was the condition for Hyde to develop stronger. This means that when people are tempted, that is when they let their evil persona to grow.

The Odyssey, by Homer, is an Epic Essay -- Epic Narrative
An epic is a long, episodic narrative poem that recounts the adventures of a historical or mystical hero. Episodic narratives have a larger story broken down into closely connected, but individual and separate sections. Some important qualities that distinguish an epic are unrealistic antagonists, the Gods and Goddesses playing important roles, and a story involving the re-establishment of a proper leader. ââ¬Å"The Odysseyâ⬠, by Homer, is an epic because Odysseus (the hero) faces supernatural antagonists, the gods and goddesses play an important role, and Odysseus is being restored as a rightful leader. Throughout the story, Odysseus faces several supernatural antagonists. One of these antagonists is a creature named Scylla. In a daring and dangerous section of the epic, the story mentions, ââ¬Å"He and his crew must pass between Scylla and Charybdis. Scylla is a terrifying monster with six heads. She dwells in a high rocky cave, devouring sailors in ships that pass close by.â⬠(Homer 617) Scylla is a supernatural monster because no large creatures have been identified in the world to have six heads. She is Odysseusââ¬â¢ antagonist because in this particular section, Odysseus must challenge the monster by sailing close by, without losing sailors. However, Scylla devours six of his men, one for each head. Therefore, by losing his men to Scylla, the monster is noticeably an antagonist. Prior to the encounter with Scylla, Odysseus faces a one-eyed monster named Polyphemus. Polyphemus lives in the land of the Cyclops, and Odysseus is eager to meet this ââ¬Å"mountai n kingâ⬠. An excerpt from the story of the Cyclops Odysseus reports, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦but in one stride he clutched at my companions and caught two in his hands like squirming puppies t... ...raits. By learning from his mistakes, Odysseus will be more knowledgeable of how a king would act. The development of leadership traits is the final point that makes ââ¬Å"The Odysseyâ⬠an epic. ââ¬Å"The Odysseyâ⬠, by Homer, is an epic because Odysseus (the hero) faces supernatural antagonists, the Gods and Goddesses play an important role, and Odysseus is mortal and possesses flaws and imperfections. Odysseus encounters monsters such as the Cyclopes, and Scylla and Charybdis. He interacts with the Gods Zeus and Poseidon. Odysseus is also in the process of gaining leader-like traits such as judgment and cautiousness. ââ¬Å"The Odysseyâ⬠is an epic journey full of Odysseusââ¬â¢ quests and adventures. Works Cited Homer.
